Piano Lessons for Children
I teach students ages four and up, from beginners through college preparatory levels. Lesson formats include private and semi-private formats. I'll be happy to help you choose the best lesson format for your child! Contact me here.
"30-30" Private Lesson and Music Theory Technology Lab
Students in the 30-30 Lesson Format receive a 30-minute private lesson with me, plus 30 minutes of keyboard lab. Students will arrive at the same time and alternate in the lesson and lab, for a total of 60 minutes.
The lab portion of the lesson is customized for the student, and will include music theory, listening, sight-reading, ear-training, and music composition. Students will also have the opportunity to work together on duets and music theory projects throughout the semester.
Recommended for ages 7 and up, perfect for siblings and friends!
"20-20-20" Rotating Lesson
In rotating lessons, up to three students alternate among centers, each receiving a 20-minute private lesson plus two 20-minute lab sessions. Each student will have his or her own piano, keyboard, or digital piano to play on.
In addition to customized lab assignments, the 20-20-20 lesson may also include small group instruction (dependent on matched levels/ages), duets and trios, and group music theory games for reinforcing lesson material.
Recommended for ages 7 and up, perfect for friends, and for students who have limited practice time available in-between lessons. This is a great option for families who have other commitments, and otherwise busy schedules.
This is a standard 45- or 60-minute piano lesson, and does not include a weekly designated keyboard-theory lab, although we will occasionally use the keyboard lab to reinforce certain concepts as deemed necessary, based on the student's individual progress.
Recommended for ages 4* and up
*Students ages 4-6 may attend twice-weekly 20- or 30-minute lessons
Curriculum and Methods:
I choose core instructional materials for each student based on his or her age, level, and interest. Supplementary materials are used as needed to help students develop fully as pianists and musicians. These include sheet music in various musical styles, my own compositions written for students, customized technical exercises as well as standard technique books, ear-training exercises, theory worksheets and instructional software. Beginners ages 4 through 6 will start with the Tales of a Musical Journey series.
